Iteration
Today saw the third version of the Blue Eye WordPress installation.
I started off with an off-the-shelf theme which was extremely clever and pretty, but in the end I found it both difficult to maintain, and slightly tough for the user to navigate.
The second (and third) version was a modified version of the Gravy theme made available by Darren Hoyt. I quite liked the basic theme from the offset, and only really modified a few of the measurements and the colours.
Today, I brought in the current version, which still need a bit more work, but is well on the direction that I intended… Although so far it has mostly been more refinement of margins and fonts, eagle-eyed viewers might notice that there has been a few pretty drastic changes. All of which I hope are for the better.
- The number of pages is reduced from 9 down to 5.
- The blog itself is now the home page. This is the page where most of the activity is meant to happen, so let it be seen first.
- The Portfolio page now replaced the previous Design, Illustration, and Photo pages.
I’ve been thinking; all of the sites and news that I personally follow tend to have a general feeling of being simple. I want to try to develop this place into an area where I can do something similar – convey interesting materials, from an uncluttered platform.
I hope you enjoy this quest along with me.
Aaron.
